Commuting FAQs

Q How can I use alternative transportation if I don’t live near a train or bus line?

A We've got you covered! We've solved this problem with a comprehensive ride matching service called Commuter Options. Offered in cooperation with CARAVAN for Commuters’ RideSource database, this service helps you find a convenient carpool by matching you to anyone who lives near you and has a similar commuting pattern.

Q What if I get sick during the day, or my child needs me, or I need to work late?

A Relax! All members of the Council benefit from our special program designed for life’s little emergencies, the Guaranteed Ride Home. As long as you ride share at least three days a week, we'll pay for a taxi to get you home or to a transit station whenever you experience an emergency during the day.

Q My schedule varies day by day; how can I use your shuttle services when I never know what time I’ll be leaving?

A We’ll keep you informed! Our Web site always has current shuttle route and schedule information, so it's easy for you to find out which of our many runs works best for you each different day. We also have a dedicated transportation coordinator for your organization, so you always have up-to-date information at your fingertips.

Q But I need my car so I can go directly to the airport from my office!

A No you don’t! If you've gotten to work using a commuting alternative, we can assist your employer with airport transportation requirements.

We provide a variety of services and programs aimed at reducing congestion and making your commute easier. These include:

  • Carpool and Vanpool Matching
  • Shuttle Bus lines connecting members with mass transit centers

  • You or a family member became ill during the day.
  • Your supervisor unexpectedly asks you to work late.
  • You are stranded at work because your carpool or vanpool driver became ill or had to leave early.
  • You drive for a carpool and become incapable of driving home.
  • Any other qualified reason.
